Kaladin is an epic fantasy, cinematic-style book soundtrack inspired by Brandon Sanderson's bestselling novel, The Way of Kings. Blending gritty styles that are heavily influenced by the epic music of Two Steps From Hell and Steve Jablonski (Transformers) with piercing beauty influenced by James Horner (Avatar) and Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings), the album tells a tale of a harsh world where storms ravage the earth, spirits assist humanity, and hope, beauty, and honor exist as delicate wisps on the wind.
The album connects with the imaginations of fans in an exciting way. It enhances the listener's experience of the story without getting in the way of their imagination, enabling them to picture their favorite moments in vivid detail. For those who haven't read the book, the music deftly captures the sting of betrayal, the horror of fighting a war on the front lines, the whispers of a spiritual awakening, and the strength of friendship so that the listener may become familiar with the story on a human level. The music invites all listeners to to join the magic of a world that needs heroes to stand and accept the call to unite.
Latest Updates from Our Project:
Kaladin Art Book: Artist Feature - Ivan Roujev + Some Bonus Sketches
over 3 years ago

Hi everyone!
Happy Tuesday! Today we're going to do a double feature! (Well, more of a "multi-feature".)
Artist Feature - Ivan Roujev
First, let's introduce one of our more unique artists. His name is Ivan Roujev, and he works in a realistic art style known as photobashing. Like our art director, Petar Penev, Ivan graduated in architecture, but he works as a professional concept artist and digital matte-painter, mainly in the film industry.
Ivan will be providing us with a photo-realistic rendering of the Shattered Plains for the Kaladin art book.
Here are a few examples of Ivan's existing work:
"Sketches" work a bit differently for photobashing than they do for traditional art. They almost seem more like works-in-progress. I don't have an example I can show you for this one, but I hope you'll believe me when I say that we really think you'll love his final rendering!
A Few Extra Bonuses
We wanted to give you a little extra this week. We're nearing completion (more on that hopefully in our next update). So, we wanted to throw in a few extra sneak peaks.
Sketches:
First, a sketch of Chasm Kata by none other than our Art Director, Petar Penev. The perspective is pretty cool. I quite like how each of the bridgemen has their own sense of personality. This one will turn out phenomenally:
Next, a sketch of Honor is Dead by Caio Santos. We've introduced Caio previously, but we know he's a fan favorite, and there's a reason why. We think Caio captures the emotion of the scene depicted by this song quite well:
Last, but certainly not least is a finished extension by Ari Ibarra for the song "Warrior". Looking at this image while listening to the lyrics "I'll be your Warrior" by TREN just gives me chills. We know this song means a lot to a lot of people, and we believe the image captures that same feeling:
That's all for now, but we're closing in on the end of this.
Wishing you all the best and have a lovely week!

Hi everyone!
Here we are again - it's Tuesday! Things are really cooking along. I'm going to try to have a more general update about the progress of the book out to you soon, as we're definitely closing in on things. But for now, I just wanted to feature our next artist, Grant M. Hansen.
Grant was introduced to Brandon Sanderson’s work while studying illustration at Brigham Young University, and he has agreed to extend an image he recently illustrated for inclusion in the Kaladin Art Book. We'll be using it to pair with the Bridge Four Shield track.
Grant actually provided us with the artwork for the cover of the Kaladin album:
Here's a look at a sketch of Grant's Bridge Four Shield:
We're really excited at how everything is really coming together. Lots of work has been submitted and approved. More on that in an upcoming update!
For now, have a great week!
All the best,
Michael and Petar
Kaladin Art Book Update: Works from Antti Hakosaari

Hi everyone,
Happy "Stormlight Tuesday"! We're continuing to move along (quite rapidly) with the commissioned illustrations. All of the artists are doing such amazing work, and as Petar can attest, I am only too excited to share more with you.
Sae Sae had previously announced our next artist, but that was before she had to step away from production and Petar came on board, so let me re-introduce Antti Hakosaari. Antti has provided us with a small extension to one of his existing Knights Radiant pieces (which will be paired with The Knights Radiant track) and has agreed to provide an illustration for Bridge Four.
I'll share the full Knights Radiant illustration here with you now:
And here is a small sketch showing a piece of the upcoming Bridge Four illustration:
I love going back and listening to the tracks from the Kaladin album with these illustrations, and I know you'll find a similar joy when we finally get these out to you!
We hope you are all doing well. As always, please feel free to reach out to us. It is such a pleasure talking with fellow Sanderson fans, and it is by your support and encouragement that we have been able to make it so far.
All the best,
Michael and Petar
Kaladin Art Book: Artist Feature - Caanan White

Hi everyone!
By now, I'm sure that you're checking your inboxes every Tuesday. Or at least, that's what I'm imagining as I am preparing today's featured artist post. It has been wonderful to introduce you to some amazing talent as we continue our journey together, and today's featured artist is no different.
I'm excited to announce Caanan White as today's featured artist. Caanan will be illustrating Thath and ChasmKata (to accompany the Thath and Chasm Kata tracks on the album, both composed by Michael Bahnmiller).
Like Milen Dimitrov, whom we announced last week, Caanan has a very dynamic, comic illustration style. Here are some examples of his existing work:
And of course, we couldn't leave you without showing you a little piece of what Caanan is currently working on for the Kaladin album Art Book. Here's a sketch and a bonus Work-in-Progress (subject to change) for Thath:
It may be hard to see with the light blue, but the perspective on this piece is really cool and the style is only going to make it epic. We know you're going to love it once he has it all finished.
Until next post.
All the best,
Michael and Petar
Kaladin Art Book: Artist Feature - Milen Dimitrov

Hello everyone,
It's that time of the week again for another Kaladin album Art book update!
I'm pleased to announce Milen Dimitrov as today's featured artist. Milen will be illustrating Stormblessed to accompany the track on the album by the same name, which was composed by Richard Williams! Petar wanted to include some variety in the artwork we commissioned, and Milen's work is one perfect aspect of that vision.
Milen works in illustration, comics and concept art. He enjoys visual storytelling and bringing interesting new characters to life. His work is usually inspired by fantasy and sci-fi themes and has mostly been published in the world of indie comics. He also has a graphic novel in the works which will be set in the cyberpunk and sci-fi genre.
To show Milen's dynamic style, here are a couple of his existing illustrations:
And of course, we couldn't leave you without giving you a small taste of what we (and by we, I mean Petar and Milen) have cooking. Here's an early sketch of Stormblessed by Milen Dimitrov:
What do you think? Let us know in the comments. And thank you for those who have commented on previous updates. I'll be addressing updated schedule and shipping in future updates as we get closer. It'll be a little while, but stay tuned.
